The tale of RS250RF #40...

sweet freddy that 1st start is always a great feeling!!

sorry about your eyes, I’ve had to inhale race gas before and its not good… can’t imagine it going into your face!

Preliminary pictures back from the paint shop:
This is not a perfect job,: I am the only culprit… I am the one who made the stripes, and all the prep, and also the lines & proportions compared to the original Honda “marketing” bike.

This is my first attempt at painting, and only having one day to complete the whole paint job (Paint shop owner told me I would only have one day, and if I needed more it would have to be mid-may…) I had pressure to finish, and my son Gabriel 8 years old was at the paint shop for 13 hours my hats off to his patience !

Here are some of the pics back from paint…
Waiting on Dzus fasteners to finish it up…

It is friggin beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Had the RS250 on the track at Shannonville yesterday;
Smiles per miles is priceless!!!

Oh my god! This is my first experience with GP bikes… Woow!
what a blast!

Ran the bike rich (182 mains) with 30:1 A747
Bike is filthy, will get it cleaned up by tommorow…

Still missing the bottom fairing, will remedy to that soon…

A few pics from yesterday…

Pleasure meeting you at the track day yesterday Freddie, bike looks better than the posted pic’s if you can believe that, sounds great too. Smiles per miles…I thought somebody was going to have to throw a net over you when you first got off it after your first session  Looking forward to seeing you & the RS out at the VRRA events.
Cheers & great work.

John.

John, it was great meeting you!!!

Thanks for the compliments for the bike, but I still need to work on those numbers !!! I agree, they do look like sh!t…

See you soon…

Fred

fred it is a beutiful bike to see live, and when it roars into life.
man what a beutiful sounding machine))).
glad i was there with john to see and hear it.
truly a fantastic job.
graham.

Well Hey we had to find something wrong with it…I have a spare set of #248 we could put on it :unamused:

nice try john you would probably have to strangle fred to get that beast away from him, but no harm in trying=)))

Finaly:

Some pictures of almost finished product; still have to make another seat foam…

Compare original, with final product… not bad, stil a few details to be taken care of, but project, especially when it comes to the mechanics (parts are the worst… ) the project is to my liking!

Fred

PS: Outside pictures to follow soon…

Original 85:

My rendering:
(The white number plate on the side fairing, will be as the original, but I screwed up when making the paint…)
[/img]

hi fred.
glad to see you got rid of the masking tape #s.
much better like that?.
fantastic job. graham.

Project is finally finished:
Time for final pictures, and enjoy the work (sitting back and enjoying a beer or two, while looking at the bike…)

:sunglasses: Nice work Fred…looks great !!! :sunglasses:

hi fred.
looks as quick as it is, i guess you will now be known as fast freddy bender. ya gotta love those old machines, well done.
graham.

Started again; the weather has gotten cold, so time to be in the shop
RS is almost naked.
I will be dissassembling the motor. I will keep one set of jugs to keep the original HRC pistons (for authenticity), and will make the CR125 Wiseco conversion on the other set of cylinders & heads that I have.

I have also located a zinc plater for all the fasteners …Just like Ko & Rene

I have received another original footrest (these things are REALLY hard to find these days…)
I have almost everything, its just a question of cleaning & refinishing of all the parts… Everything, this time around, will get the upmost attention to detail…

Fred

it looks absolutely beautiful. I know Paul’s brother and I’ll see if I can get some pics of the bike as it was raced next time I see him. Keep up the good work ! I look forward to seeing the bike in person next season.

That would be great of you could get some period pictures! And even try to get Paul to see the rebuild…

Had some nasty surprizes, when I opened the cases (good thing I did)
Saved by a “unobtanium” crate that came with the bike…
