The tale of RS250RF #40...

Long story short:
Used to be in bikes in the 80’s… My first ever bike was an RD400 1977…
My best date in those days, was on an RZ500…

So, bought a 1985 RS250RF (first year) serial# RS250RF-5140

This bike was originally driven by Paul McMillan, and Ralph Murphy in 85, until 1990: I have a few records, and tuning fiche from those days…

In 1990 it was bought by Chris Coyle, who won the canadian title in 1994 with this 9 year old bike…

I have all set-up sheets, and logs from 1990-1994…

In 1995, he moved, and theb ike got taken appart, never to be touched again, until I found it…(married life for him, etc…)

So, this is the tale of RS250RF #5140, being brought back to life, and expected to start being active again in 2008…

Pictures for your enjoyment…

Bought the bike and had a 16 hour drive… unloaded the stuff…

So got the engine done,

Tgis is the tank getting stripped : ready for prep & paint…

Here is what I did for the rad :
Had it steamed, and then took about 5-6 hours, straightening the fins back… with a small flat head crewdriver, and a par of bent long nose…

Then I had the Original ATAC mechanism, all cleaned out, and every thing seems like its there… I am only missing on side of the ATAC ‘‘U’’ shaped bracket, and they could bue fully operationnal… But Meanwhile I have the non-ATAC spigots , and block off plates, to get the bike going…

As for the wheels, I have both the original D.I.D set ( COMSTAR Wheels) and some original 18’’ slicks, and some 17’’ Magnesium Marvic’s…

Got the Marvic’s magnafluxed, blasted, powder coated, and magnafluxed again… They got new bearings & seals too…

As for the the Comstar’s, they still hold their original paint…

Had some of the best expansion chambers re-done, welded, and powder coated;
The powder coating is actually a refractory paint ( Black wrinkle satin finish…)

After this,
polished my frame, triples, and other parts…

After having all new bearings, seals and others, at the swing arm, & steering stem, now its time for the rear suspension, with all new stuff too…

Hopefully, this is the fianl result that wiil come out of this build…

I am going to make a replica of Freddie’s bike…

(Funny my name is Freddie too…)

1985 250GP world championship RS250RF, from Freddie Spencer…
