I picked this bike up from Mr. Daigle a couple of years ago, and have decided to stop procrastinating about it. It was showing 8,000 km’s on the odometer. Hadn’t run since 1988. Cold compression test was 120. We assembled and cleaned the carbs and it started right up. Brian supplied one of his famous Gpz Dash boards and a race wiring harness. New steering head bearings and fork seals have been done.We mocked up an exhaust and have sent the wheels and bodywork out for paint..
I’ll post pics of the progress and work involved to get a barn bike on the track.

I thought that while we were at it, why not fix the 1981 that was damaged in 09…so we dragged it out of storage and will document the resurrection..

UMMMM, Rick? The bike in the picture is NOT the bike I sold you. I NEVER would have sold an original, limited-edition gold model GPz.
But anyways, it’s good to see you’ve FINALLY got off your duff and are doing something!!!

Well, the gold tank is from a bike I got from Jim Kots…the red tank is being painted the correct colour..

Rick
For your information, the CORRECT color is RED, NOT some derivative of ‘PIPI GREEN’!!!
But the BEST color will always be GOLD!!!

1981 Gpz Resurrection
Engine is out and frame is stripped..

Donor frame…

Frame braced and painted

Back on her feet..

More progress. I changed the transmission out in the engine. Wired the bike for racing and cut the muffler in half.

Nearly there…

Gorgeous work as always Rick, progress was evident from one picture to the next. Looking forward to seeing it at the track.

Progress on the 1982
The streetbike header stuck out and needed to be tucked in for safety and to stay inside the rails for the bellypan…

I take it Brian had previously bought that race winning harness from Lee Newbury or Dave Côté ?
Nice project, Rick !
Humph!
Denigration from a guy who can’t race anymore 'cause without Virginie he can’t even plug his tire warmers in!!!
