New challenge classes for 2025

We have room in the schedule for a few test challenge races for the 2025 season.
Feel free to discuss the proposed races here.
The Membership Secretary will send out a poll near the end of the month to cast your vote on what you’d like to enter and or see at our events.
All of the chosen classes will run at all four of the events.
The Post Vintage Invitational (now medium and heavy) was voted on at the AGM to make it an official test class for the 2025 season so it’s already slotted into the schedule.

Battle of the Twins

All classes defined by the VRRA
Three classes, divided into light, middle and heavy

Song of Singles
Single cylinder four strokes, air and liquid cooled

Timothy. The 2T open makes absoloutly no sense.

  • What if you have a 350?
  • Why wouldn’t you just follow the AHRMA rules and get AHRMA folks to attend. Thats a 30 person class in the US. If you can get 5 they may enter the bikes native class as well +senior/junior open. Thats another $500 per rider

From the AHRMA Handbook;

8.8 OPEN TWO-STROKE
Open to any two-stroke motorcycle, regardless of displacement, number of cylinders,
frame type, cooling type or date of manufacture.

We can eliminate the classes in the 2TGP and just run it as an Open.
Not a problem.
Easier for me to grid.

Timothy

I’m just thinking its such a huge class at AHRMA and if you could get 5 of those guys at Calabogie and Mosport that would bump up the number significantly… and who wouldn’t want to ride at Calabogie and Mosport

Exactly.
I know numbers for those classes might be low for either of the Shannonville rounds.
But they should attract a lot of interest at Calabogie and Mosport.
I’m hoping to attract bikes with no where else to go.
A swarm of RZ350’s on the grid would be a sight not seen in a long time.

Filling out P1 is part two of the get more riders out plan.

Timothy

I fully support an Open two stroke race!

Very exciting !

Hello Tim,

In December you had mentioned that the Membership Secretary would send out a poll near the end of the month for the membership to cast our votes on. When is this happening or did I miss the boat? Time for all to get signed up for 2025 so we can vote?

Best regards,

Hello Tim,

Could we look at adding room for the small class to allow 1967 and older air cooled 4 stroke singles to be 500cc, this might allow our P1 bikes in.

Hello Tim,

Next question,

That is the breakdown for the three classes?

Interested in where air cooled, pushrod 500cc fits in.

Best regards,

In lightweight singles, would it make sense to extend Paul’s suggestion so that the air-cooled 2V SOHC Yamaha singles (TT, XT, SR) can enter? We used to see quite a few in the club, but not so many these days though they must still be around. I have one. With the changes to P3 light they no longer have a worthwhile bump class from P2 MWP but SOS would be fun. Even well-built they are no more powerful than a good P1 single and the chassis is no great thing either. But they are bullet-proof

Hi Tim,
Re the Son of Singles & evolving proposals, could we discuss changing the current proposed rule ?
from: “Up to 400cc”
to: “Up to 450cc 4valve or 600cc 2 valve”

Cheers, Mike Heggarty #815

Tim. What does “Road race machines only” mean. Would that include SuperMono?

Tim,

I’m very interested in seeing the Sound of Singles Class evolve into reality for this year.

That said I like the open 2 stroke class as well but would like clarification on whether a 625cc Rotax 4 stroke single in a TZ250 chassis would be given special consideration for inclusion in this class. Given the bike was originally built to race against the 250s I feel it is a good but odd fit that would be fun to watch.

Thanks for all the questions guys. This is why this post is here.

OK, so the final definition of the classes will be worked out later so nothing other than the concept is what I’m putting forward. I’d just like to see interest in the classes as I think offering a varied selection of racing motorcycles is a good representation of our club.

The poll has been sent out and I will be going over the responses this Wednesday with the exec to see which classes are possibly viable.

All singles are allowed in the Song of Singles class. (Sound of Singles is copyrighted so we can’t call it that) So any year from 1900 up to 2025. Why 2025? For the inclusion of Modern Lightweight bikes that have one cylinder such as the KTM 390.

Yes, the TT, XT and SR Yamaha singles can enter. And that also includes those motors being put in a modern road race chassis such as the TZ250 or RZ125. Or even a Spondon or Tigcraft if you have the luck of owning such a piece of artwork.

Exact class cut offs haven’t been defined as of yet but I would like to make it as simple as possible. With the riders input and general consensus we might even change the descriptions through the season to balance out the classes.

Road race machines means bikes with clipons (Super bike bars would also be ok) and a road racing sitting position. This guideline was meant to exclude Super Moto bikes. Converted dirt bikes into road racers would be allowed as seen in California (Formula 450).

Yes, a Rotax 625 in a TZ chassis would definitely be allowed. To me, these bikes are the definition of the SOS class. The ultimate being the Ducati Super Mono 660. Any bike with one cylinder. Four stroke. Thumper.

Tim,

Are there any updates that can be shared from the meeting with the exec on Wednesday ref which of the proposed new classes are green lighted for 2025?
