Competition Coordinator and Coordinator Assistant.

The Competition Coordinator position on the Executive requires a deep commitment to execute a racing season under any possible circumstances, and without fail. The position is very large, and will take a substantial amount of training to take over.

I will not be returning to the VRRA in 2019 in any capacity past racer/volunteer.

It has been my absolute honor to set out and achieve the capacity of events we have enjoyed for the last three years, and 2018 will be no different. I couldn’t be more excited to get started with our wonderful volunteer teams and racers to execute what I hope will be a season on which the future of the VRRA can flourish. That future however will not be with me in a leading role.

Two years in marketing, and 4 as Competition Coordinator have taken their toll on my enjoyment of the sport, and I made a very solid promise to my family that when this stopped being fun, I would end it, and so here we are. My children are teenagers only once, and I will be spending my newly acquired free time with them. (& tinkering on my TZ!)

I immensely enjoy providing the events to the Membership and seeing the joy it brings to the racers and their family is very rewarding. I’m proud of our growth, and am excited to see what the club looks like five years from now with all the tools that are coming. It’s truly a bright future should the club choose that path.

One very important aspect to this position is it needs dividing up so that one person is not fully responsible for such a large portion of presenting the events, and so that both people can continue racing and enjoy the events they are creating. As such the Executive has asked me to create an apprentice/assistant role in addition to the Competition Committee so that training can take place and the transition into 2019 can be as smooth as possible. This assistant position will be responsible for the following:

-At track distribution of grids and schedules

  • Providing a direct link from timing and scoring to registration
    -Uploading of results
    -Proofing the actual series results
-learning Series Tracker usage at the track
-working with the tower to communicate possible changes and updates.
-directly reporting to the Volunteer Coordinator for any staffing needs regarding the racing surface.

These tasks are all critical, and represent a good portion of the at-track responsibilities of the Competition Coordinator. Ideally the person filling this role will also be trained during the off season in both Series Tracker, and the myriad of tasks necessary to launch each of the events pre-season.

While the Competition Coordinator position is an elected position my hope would be that the club would consider this training and experience when voting for their next Competition Coordinator this fall. As such this position needs filling as soon as possible so training can get started now.

Bump.
