AHRMA at NJMP Sidecars Aug 2-4 2013

AHRMA is racing at New Jersey Motorsports Park Aug 2-4 2013. I have confirmed with AHRMA that sidecars will be racing.

I encourage VRRA to add it to their schedule or at least give it a strong push. This represents a terrific opportunity to give more exposure to sidecar racing and attract more racers.

I’ll be there with my P3 for sure!

will the new P3 class (1300cc any configuration) run with P1-P2? Where else can these bikes race?

They can run only in AHRMA races. I don’t know of anyone with one or with plans to build one. You can count the number of P3s in the east on one hand, if I recall correctly. AHRMA does run the P3s with the P1 & P2 bikes.

here’s the full text of the new AHRMA rules

P1—Two-strokes up to 1967, maximum 500cc, plus allowable overbores. Four-strokes up to 1974, maximum 750cc, plus allowable overbores. Single- or two-cylinder engines with no more than two valves per cylinder.

P2-—Four-strokes up to 1982, up to 750cc, maximum two-valve-per-cylinder twins.

P3—Four-strokes up to 1982, 750-1300 cc any configuration.

Kind of a cockup set of engine rules. With the 74 cut-off for P1 the two main engine choices would be BMW & Yamaha XS (with 750 kit). As those are the same dominate engines choices for their P2, kind of kills off P1, given similar wheel & tire rules. :frowning:

My .02, a better version would have been:
P1 - 500cc 4 strokes, single or twin, sitter, or kneeler frame, 16" wheel, 67 cut-off
P2 - 500 2 stroke twins (cut-off??)/ 750 4 stroke twins (max 8 valves, allows Weslake / Nourish head Triumph), 15" wheel min. / 5" tread, 74 cut-off (allows electric start XS 447 cases)
P3 - 4 stroke 750, max 4 cylinder, minimum 10" wheel / treaded tire (max 6" tread??), 74 cut-off (allows Trident 3, and Honda SOHC, and period frame designs like 10" Windle)
P4 - 4 stroke 1000cc, any cylinder configuration, minimum 13" wheel / slicks (max 8" tread??), 82 cut-off (allows Z1, CB900F, CBX, GPZ, others??).

P4 should have a later cutoff - lets at least get into the oil-cooled era!

For god sake please don’t try to change our rules.
Just because they screwed it up is no reason for us to
follow.
Not sure how or why this affects VRRA

Or USCRA Or SRA for that matter…

USCRA has their vintage festival that weekend

I’m not trying to change anything. Just sharing what I found.

AHRMA, LOST IN THE WIDERNESS

Doesn’t affect us at all (P2), was just an observation, and an example of how it could have been better. Don’t get your nickers in a knot.

That said, there is a valid argument to be made that our current P3 could be divided into Classic & Post Classic, like P1 & P2 are Vintage & Super Vintage. Whether that would encourage greater participation in P3 is open for debate.

Oh and Kyler, if you think moving the ‘yard sticks’ to allow the oil cooled GSXR would be a good idea, I’ll see your move with that liquid cooled VF750F I have. So no I wouldn’t support a later cut-off, just a re think of P3. As it stands, all the sidecars run together in VRRA. So if I wanted to get some seat time with my P3 Fiddaman, it would get an engine that allowed me to run SRA & AHRMA events.

I’m just happy to be racing.

As a FNG, I’ll be smelling the exhaust of the pack for a long time.

Everyone can change the rules all they want, I’ll stick with my rig and the GS750 motors as long as my skill is the limiting factor

My knickers are not in a knot,
at least they weren’t until you used those fucking smiley faces.

The USCRA has an event on this weekend in August
and has in the past been a great supporter of
the VRRA and vice versa, I’d rather support them by going to NH and see
they would make the effort to come up to Mosport and support us.

The USCRA event in May is on my calander for 2013. I would also consider the Aug, and September ones, baring conflict with VRRA (and a healthy bike, and bank account). That said, USCRA only run P1 & P2 using rules that match ours (no P3), and SRA don’t run Vintage (per say  ).

This banter was really about AHRMS’s change to their P3 rules. If the solo guy’s can discuss adding a pure GP class, making rules exceptions for some bikes to beef up P3M & H, and eventually add P5, why should discussing P3 sidecar be off limits??? It’s not like this effects some huge group. We had x1 P3 at the TT, and x1 at the Classic.

AHRMA sidecar rules are a bit odd, and the unfortunetly the sidecars don’t get much love down here in the states. Whether it is practicing with the bikes, races getting cut short, or being sent out in the rain when they dont wanna run bikes.

I would consider putting my gt750 engine in a three wheeler if it were worth my time, but it isnt. I would want a two stroke and, well, the rules kinda kill that for cool stuff.

We are trying to convince all our AHRMA friends with rigs to come to mosport. They appear to get treated MUCH better up there.

I’ll be at NJMP with my P3. It is 2 1/2 hours from my home. Can’t pass up a deal like that!

EXACTLY! Spread the word!

Mosport is on my list to race someday.

Last year was our first time to mosport in 4 years of racing (two wheelers). This year, It and Barber got first vacation priority, then the rest.

We have been coaxing the new owners of paul w’s rig to put it on the schedule since we left last summer. We go visit them next month and try to get them on board! I love big sidecar races, it been years since we have seen good grids in the midwest.
